Cataract prevention, antioxidants

Cataract prevention, antioxidants

Can cataracts be prevented or at least slowed down in growth and progression ? Well a recent study at Moorfields eye hospital showed that drinking several glasses of wine a week is beneficial. The study showed that drinking moderately reduced the progression of cataracts. However this does need to be red wine as white wine does not contain sufficient antioxidants. This may suggest that taking antioxidants as a supplement may also be beneficial as we age.

We also provide assessment and referral for cataract surgery, see here for further information.
