dry eye can be diagnosed using slit lamp microscope and possibly the use of a yellow dye:

Other dyes can be used for the diagnosis of dry eye such as rose bengal and lissamine green.

An Optometrist can diagnose dry eye and advise on further treatment to alleviate symptoms and reduce complications.

Dry eye assessment and diagnosis is paid for by a local MECS scheme.
