This elderly patient noticed a red eye developing early today, she is taking blood thinners. A conjunctival hemorrhage is quite common, especially as one gets older. However this example is especially prominent, the lower conjunctiva is full of blood and has prolapsed over the lower eyelid. This prevents the lower eyelid from wiping the cornea in an upward motion and may lead to overnight drying with subsequent discomfort and risk of infection. The blood will resolve with time, think about it like a large bruise.
