If your eyes water and leak tears onto the lids you are likely to have eye irritation. You may have a problem with your eyes that cause the the extra production of tears. That may be linked with new recent light sensitivity which is called photophobia. If there are not other eye problems other than overflow your lids are likely to be sore due to the tears drying out on the lids. The tears are salty and once they dry they leave a slight crusty salty deposit behind. This salty deposit irritates the skin and causes gritty red uncomfortable skin.
The overflow of tears may be due to swelling of the skin which causes the tear drains to become blocked. This is can be linked with eczema. We can review the reason for the tear overflow and advise you of the best way forward. These appointments are covered by MECS, see this link.
